Madhu Sondhi (Centre Director)

I hold a Graduate Diploma of Teaching (Early Childhood) from The University of Auckland. The course helped to broaden my knowledge of children’s development and their different learning styles. Children have been an integral part of my life since 2003, when I got my first job as a teacher for a private school in New Zealand. I have had the great opportunity to work with children and professionals of different ethnic backgrounds and have always learnt something new from each one of them. I am a continuous learner, who has pledged to continue teaching children with the goal of shaping their educational paths for the better.

After having worked in Auckland for five years, I moved to Sydney with my family in 2009 and worked there in different capacities. I had been working as a Centre Director, where I was managing the affairs of the Centre. This included leading high-quality program for children, maintaining health and hygiene standards for well being of children, mentoring staff, conducting staff appraisals and overseeing day to day operations of the Centre.

As a teacher, I have always worked with preschoolers and have developed strong skills in creating fun, interactive learning activities and materials, observing and reporting on child development and developing good rapport with children, families and staff. I strongly believe that the quality of education a person receives in early life is indispensable as it helps to bring out his/her potential and that all children should have easy access to quality learning and care. These notions are well encapsulated in Te-Whãriki, whose principles I support whole-heartedly.

I graduated in 2007 with a Bachelor in Teaching (Early Childhood Education) and began my professional career working with children, however, I have been involved in childcare (home based) for over 20 years.

I am married to Shayne, a Kiwi. We moved to New Zealand from London in 1994 and had our boys, Josh and Luke, just about off our hands.

I have been teaching and learning alongside young children since 2003. I completed my Bachelor of Teaching ECE from Unitec in 2004.

I am passionate about enhancing project work, and am inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach to teaching and learning. I am particularly interested in the development of pre literacy skills and finding natural ways to foster the love of communication in its many forms.

I live locally in Glen Eden, with my husband and son born in 2013. My interests include singing, drama, storytelling, arts and crafts and netball.
